Our hair is our pride and joy. We may think we are taking good care of it. After all we do wash it, shampoo it and some of us even condition it daily. But what if we told you that you were doing something wrong. Got your attention didn’t we? As men we sometimes don’t take care of ourselves the way we ought to. So here are 5 things you do wrong when washing your hair.
- Incorrect water temperature
Everyone loves a hot shower at the end of the day. And while it is helps relieving back pains, and sore muscles after a workout, it is actually murder on your hair! Hot water burns your hair and worst still your scalp, destroying its ability to naturally regenerate your hair. You should therefore switch to lukewarm water when washing your hair. Lukewarm water is simply better, as it washes and cleanses your scalp without destroying the pH balance necessary to regenerate hair.
- Washing your hair too often
While washing your hair is necessary, washing it too frequently is doing yourself a disservice. Washing your hair everyday means weakening your hair follicles. Besides shampooing your hair everyday is the worst thing you can do, as it will simply dry out your hair. You should wash your hair a maximum of 2-3 times a week. Bet you didn’t know that!
- Using the wrong shampoo
As men we aren’t too picky about the type of shampoo we use. In fact most guys will simply use any shampoo they find in their/or their girlfriend’s bathroom closet. Hair products are created with the sex of their users in mind. Men’s and women’s hair are different in the way that apples and oranges are different. So using a shampoo formulated specially for men, is important as it is meant to cleanse a man’s hair in the way a man’s hair ought to be cleant!
- You don’t soak your hair enough
Say hey yo, if you enter the bath, turn on the water and immediately shampoo your hair! Well you’re doing it wrong! And here’s why you’re doing it wrong… before you start applying shampoo let your hair be sopping wet! Simply because you need the dust and pollution particulates out of your mane, before you shampoo it.
- You dry your hair wrong
Forget about the hairdryer (unless you want to be bald within the week!) The trick to drying your hair without damaging it is to dab it with a microfiber towel. Aggressively rubbing your scalp dry is the main reason for hair fall.
